Mission Statement:

To provide a safe and empowering environment for victims of domestic violence through advocacy, education, shelter and family support services.


The Family Visitation Center provides a continuum of visitation services to meet familiesí needs; striving to provide a neutral and non-threatening environment in which parents may interact with their children while creating positive memories.

Providing a safe environment to allow families to build and maintain a positive relationships during times of transition and separation.

Mitchell Family Visitation Center (FVC) is provides a safe and secure environment for parents and children to spend time building and maintaining relationships during difficult and transition times.  The safety and comfort of every the child is of utmost importance.  Children are often caught in the middle of their parentsí problems, especially when there has been history of abuse.  FVC is designed for children and their separated or divorced parents where there has been conflict involved with visitation, domestic abuse, or child abuse.  The Center serves as a comfortable, neutral location for the transfer of children for traditional visitation and as a location for monitored on-site visitation.

Hours of Operation
Monday - Friday: 9:00am - 8:00pm
Saturday: 10:00am - 6:00pm
Sunday: 12:00pm - 8:00pm

Services Offered

Supervised Exchanges:
FVC is a safe place for the custodial parent to exchange children with the non-custodial parent for visitation without the parents having face-to-face contact. The Center will be used specifically in cases where there may be a history of spouse abuse, harassment, or any other stressful visitation situation.

Supervised Visitation: 
Supervised visitation is provided in cases where there is documented or suspected sexual, physical or emotional abuse. The level of supervision is determined according to the needs of the family. Center staff is available to personally monitor the entire visit with closed-circuit television.

Supervised Telephone Calls: 
Staff supervision of phone contact between children and non-custodial adults is also provided when such contact presents problems for families.

Parenting Classes:

We offer both Responsive and Common Sense Parenting Classes.  See our community education section below for more information.

When to use a Family Visitation Center

*Family members need support and assistance in establishing or re-establishing relationships
*Parents are using children to control a former partner
*When visitation times are sources a of conflict witnessed by the children
*A history of parent picking up the children under the influence of drugs or alcohol
*Repeated pattern of inconsistency or irresponsibility while exercising or allowing visitation
*Parents have Protection, Restraining or No Contact Orders
*When children are in foster care because of abuse
*Concern over a parent leaving with the child
*Out-of-town parent needs a comfortable, home-like atmosphere to visit their child
*Any other circumstance where the safety of the child is a concern

Child custody proceedings may be the most trying, exasperating and complex of all legal proceedings. The Family Visitation Center is committed to preserving family relationships within a secure and child-oriented environment.

Common Sense Parenting Classes
A proven program that provides a step-by-step guide for raising responsible children. Designed to help parents build strong, healthy families; making their homes more peaceful, enjoyable and safer for the whole family. Five week of sessions. Designed for parents of children K-12.

Responsive Parenting Classes
